Site Built For Visually Impaired
India houses around 20% of visually impaired population in the world, why is their progress stagnant? Primarily, factors such as lack of disability awareness, poor education, less exposure to basic accessible devices such as computers, screen readers, braille displays, OCR devices, smart phones stifle their academic development. Due to unavailability of screen readers both in rural and urban areas in Indian languages plus their high prices, English still remains the sole medium for access to computers and in turn to the outside world. Poor communication/ and other soft skills hamper personality development and professional competence, ultimately resulting in financial dependence. Besides, absence of comprehensive mobility-training is a daunting challenge irrespective of socio-economic status.
